DOMITA Tablet

INDICATIONS

Symptomatic treatment of severe nausea and vomiting particularly during treatment with cytotoxic drugs.

Symptomatic treatment of nausea, vomiting, epigastric and abdominal feeling of heaviness and distension after meals associated with delayed gastric emptying.

DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION

The drug is to be taken per oral 15-30 minutes before meals.

Adults: 10-20 mg (max. 1 mg/kg), every 4-8 hours.

Children: 200-400 microgram/kg, every 4-8 hours.

* In patients with known hypersensitivity to any drug component.

* Postoperative vomiting.

* Gastrointestinal haemorrhage.

* Mechanical occlusion in gastrointestinal tract.

* Infants under 1 year of age.

* Routine or chronic administration of the drug.

Side effects occur rarely (ADR <111000). Domperidone does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier and is less likely than metoclopramide to produce central effects such as extrapyramidal reactions or drowsiness which occur with very rare incidence and almost due to abnormal permeability of the blood-brain barrier (immaturity, lesions) or to overdose.

Galactorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, amenorrhoea, gynaecomastia or mastalgia are generally associated with raised serum prolactin concentrations in prolonged treatment with high doses.

Domperidone may be combined with anxiolytic agents.

Anticholinergic drugs may inhibit the action of domperidone. If the combination Is to be done, atropine is indicated after the administration of domperidone.

If domperidone is concomitantly used with antacid or antisecretory agents, domperidone should be taken before meats, antacid and antisecretory agents after meals.

In parkinsonian patients, domperidone should be used for periods of up to 12 weeks only. Possible central adverse effects may occur. Domperidone should only be used in Parkinsonia patients when safer antiemetic measures have failed.

In patients with renal impairment, the daily dose must be reduced to 30-50% and taken in divided doses.

Use in pregnancy: Domperidone has no teratogenic effect. But not safety of use, it is not recommended in pregnant

women.

Use in breast feeding: A small proportion is excreted in breast milk. Domperidone is not recommended in breast feeding

women.
